Don't Leave Bad Breath Treatment to Your Dentist
Mouth fresheners make a lot of sense. It could be
that there is something especially aromatic in food you eat away from home, or perhaps you like to eat to garlic or onions or both. It is unusual
to have friends and family who have the courage to tell you that your breath smells, but even the friendliest dentist will not have that problem
and will soon let you know. You can buy mouth fresheners without prescription, but they don't count as bad breath treatment
-- temporary relief fromn your bad breath is not good enough if the problem recurs often, or if it seems unrelated to what you eat.
A dentist can make a thorough examination of the
inside of your mouth to find out whether you have halitosis; they may then decdie on a course of bad breath treatment to deal with the
specifics of your case. Sometimes you will find that simply drinking enough water often, perhaps chewing minty gum may be enough suffice to deal
with your dry mouth -- a dry mouth can concentrate noxious substances in your exhaled breath. In children, perhaps they don't brush their teeth
properly -- but adults can be just as careless in this too. Removing a stale coating from your tongue, and dislodging pieces of food stuck
between your teeth, are other habits that may be enough to srve as sufficient bad breath treatment. A dentist will also remove accumulated
plaque, deal with all gum diseases, and they can also prescribe antibiotics as a form of bad breath treatment.
Bad Breath Treatment Beyond Your Mouth
But
dentists should not have to manage all cases of bad breath on their own. Some gum diseases can be very deep-seated, and you may have to be
referred to an oral specialist. But not all types of bad breath originate inside your mouth. A dentist may send a patient with bad breath to
a consultant to deal with a specific case. Ketones are smelly chemicals that are excreted through urine, perspiration, and also through
exhaled breath. Ketones can build up in your blood to levels which result in halitosis if you have diabetes, you have been starving, or if you
have insufficient intake of carbohydrates. Ketosis can be life-threatening, so halitosis can sometimes indicate a serious medical condition; thus
why every case of chronic bad breath should have professional attention.
Fortunately, bad breath treatment is relatively simple once
you have uncovered the underlying cause. Note, however, that it can recur if you don't follow the doctor's prescription, or if you change
personal habits which have in the past led to your bad breath. Bad breath may develop at any time, so just because you don't have it now doesn't
mean that you won't get it later in your life. It is best to ask a close friend or a member of your family to check occasionally, and for
you to keep every appointment with your dentist.
